A Hole in The Heart?

Medical embryology labels it patent ductus. Every fetus carries a hole in its heart that allows blood from the maternal blood system to oxygenate the child in the womb. Then a natural marvel happens. At birth the hole becomes fixed as external oxygen hits the lungs. If it does not close, it is called patent ductus or “open hole.” Depending on how large the hole is and where it is located, the baby may be a “blue baby”, severely underoxygenated at birth. Physicians sometimes find an unrepaired heart at puberty, or during times of stress when alerted by heart murmurs. A grade one murmur is not significant. A grade five or six measurement can be heard loudly and felt with fingers over the chest area.

The spiritual hole in the heart corresponds to the physical problem. Spiritual oxygen must hit your lungs. Life’s stresses bring on questions, murmurs, and tremors. Can you hear the murmur? Your heart calls to you to ponder its urging. Shouldn’t you get immediate assistance for your spiritual patent ductus, to close the hole? Fixing the hole in the spiritual heart thrusts one into a spiritual quest: a secret inquest, a powerful solitary pursuit.

Maybe, you’ve managed to fill the hole as best as you know how. You’ve aggressively chased a thousand things to fill it. You supposed you’ve filled it, and to some extent you have. Now, however, you’ve come to a crossroad. You want to be honest with yourself. The hole in your soul is still there, and it calls for decision and action. It refuses to wait any longer to be filled because of the mush and slush in your life. It protests your attempts to buy, talk, or work your way out of the inner mess. Your heart simply knows you too well. It calls advises you to move to a final destination, your soul seeks definite solutions.

What could it be? Or Whom could it be? The answer is this: Only Jesus can fix all kinds of heart holes. “Human fixes” cannot solve the problem and dismiss the issues of the heart. Welcoming Jesus Christ into the hole in your heart is not only reasonable, it is relevant. It is true and testable, wise and workable, verifiable and viable. Will you be reasonable and realistic, prudent and practical, in this decision for your life?

Listen to the hole in your heart, the cry of your soul.

P.S. I also had spiritual heart holes before (actually, lots of it!) but I submitted myself for spiritual transcatheter closure and ligation. Believe me, my Surgeon was the Best! He knows me well including my heart and the things that should be done with it. And until now, I still have my regular (as in daily!) check-ups with Him and it really makes my heart so healthy. So, what are you waiting for? Sa mga wala pa ka pachek-up, adto na sa Iyang clinic! It’s open 24/7. But let me remind you, HONESTY and HUMILITY is a requirement. Pride? It’s a no-no!!
